E-Ticket Module (Drupal)

The E-Ticket module is a module I developed for a site I built with Drupal, http://www.pimpsandhoessociety.org.uk. The event needed to sell 200 tickets and we decided the easiest way to do that was sell them online instead of chasing people for money! The module works using the Drupal E-Commerce API and adds an E-Ticket product type that can be sold. You can limit the amount of tickets for the event, and on checkout, the user is presented with a form to add ticket details, which are saved in a guestlist.

Plamsat On Board Computer

Palmsat (shown left) is a Pico-satellite being developed for Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited (SSTL), who are the world leaders in the design and building of low-cost small-sized satellites. A Pico-Satellite is a class of satellite weighing less than 1Kg and Palmsat was designed to be around the same size as a coke can. The purpose of this project was to build the on board computer (OBC) that essentially controlled the spacecraft and all the other onboard systems. I designed the OBC using a PIC18 microcontroller at the core. This project was for my final year project at the University of Surrey. I received a first for the project, however a fully working prototype could not be built using the technologies I had available in the lab. However, the designs and research that went into the project should provide a good starting point for other similar projects, and is the reason I have put the project online. Solar Energy House

For my MEng at Surrey University I had to do a Multi-Disciplinary Design Project (MDDP), which involved a group of engineers from several disciplines (electronic, mechanical, civil, chemical) working collaborativly to complete a project, competing against other groups to present the best overall project.

Although we did not win, we came close, and the results of our study provide a good overview of Solar Energy Homes and the technologies that can be used. Although the report is a couple of years old and new technologies have become availble, the report shows a study that Solar Electrical Energy is unsustainable until prices for the technology reduce drastically. However, Solar Water Heaters, which are far cheaper to buy, can introduce significant cost savings from the first year they are installed, and works well in the UK.

Birthdays Module for Drupal

This is my first open-source contribution for the Drupal project. The birthdays module was created out of a personal need to remember all my friend's birthdays, but also because as much as people have been asking for one, no one has made one yet, although some quick hacks have been put up on the Drupal Forum.

Features:

  • A block of upcoming users birthdays (currently next 6)
  • A page list of all the user's birthdays
  • Displays user's star sign, and hooks into Yahoo Horoscopes
  • A display of the user's birthday/current age/starsign on the user's profile
  • Automatically e-mails administrator with upcoming birthdays in a certain number of days (currently 7)
  • Automatically e-mails user on their birthday
  • If the postcard module is installed, will automatically create an e-card to send them on their birthday (this requires the postcard module from: http://drupal.org/project/postcard)
